Pillsbury’s Crescent Roll Taco Bake
This Crescent Roll Taco Bake is a comforting, family-friendly dish that combines the bold flavors of tacos with the buttery, flaky texture of crescent roll dough. It’s perfect for weeknight dinners, potlucks, or anytime you want something hearty, cheesy, and satisfying with minimal effort.
Ingredients
- 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (such as Pillsbury)
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (or ground chicken/turkey)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade mix: cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, pepper)
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce or salsa
- 1/2 cup canned corn (drained) – optional
- 1/2 cup canned black beans or kidney beans (rinsed and drained) – optional
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or Mexican blend)
- 1/2 cup sour cream (optional, for extra creaminess)
- Fresh cilantro or parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Taco Filling
Start by heating olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3–4 minutes, or until it becomes soft and translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until it is fully browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
Sprinkle in the taco seasoning and stir well to evenly coat the meat. Pour in the tomato sauce or salsa, then add the corn and beans if using. Let the mixture simmer for about 5–10 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend and the sauce to thicken slightly. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
2. Prepare the Crescent Roll Base
Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
Lightly grease a baking dish (9×13-inch works well). Unroll the crescent roll dough and press it into the bottom of the dish. Be sure to pinch together any seams so it forms a solid, even crust.
3. Assemble the Dish
Spread the prepared taco filling evenly over the crescent roll base.
If you like a creamy texture, spread or drizzle the sour cream over the meat layer.
Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously on top, making sure to cover the entire surface for a nice, melty finish.
4. Bake
Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the crescent roll crust is golden brown and fully cooked, and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
For a slightly crispier top, you can broil it for an additional 2–3 minutes at the end—just keep an eye on it to prevent burning.
5. Serve
Remove the bake from the oven and let it rest for about 5 minutes before slicing. This helps everything set and makes serving easier.
Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro or parsley. You can also top it with extra sour cream, diced tomatoes, avocado, or a drizzle of hot sauce for added flavor.

- Make it lighter: Use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef
- Vegetarian option: Replace meat with sautéed vegetables or plant-based ground meat
- Spicy kick: Add chopped jalapeños or extra chili powder
