Ingredients
For the Steak Bites:
- 1 lb (450–500g) beef steak (sirloin or ribeye recommended)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, for extra depth)
For the Mushrooms:
- 7 oz (200g) mushrooms (button or cremini), sliced
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Cajun Butter Sauce:
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, but highly recommended)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Steak
Start by cutting your steak into evenly sized bite-sized cubes (about 1–1.5 inches). Keeping them uniform ensures even cooking.
Pat the steak pieces dry with paper towels — this step is very important because it helps the steak sear instead of steam.
In a bowl, toss the steak with:
- Olive oil
- Salt & pepper
- Cajun seasoning
- Garlic powder & onion powder
- Smoked paprika
Let it sit for about 10–15 minutes to absorb the seasoning.
2. Preheat & Cook in Air Fryer
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.
Arrange the steak bites in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd — cook in batches if needed.
Cook for:
- 6–8 minutes total, shaking or flipping halfway through
Cooking time depends on your preferred doneness:
- 6 minutes → Medium-rare
- 7–8 minutes → Medium
Avoid overcooking, or the steak will lose its juiciness.
3. Cook the Mushrooms
While the steak is cooking, heat a skillet over medium heat.
Add butter and let it melt, then toss in the mushrooms. Cook them until they release their moisture and start to brown nicely.
Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
This takes about 5–7 minutes.
4. Make the Cajun Butter Sauce
In a small bowl, combine:
- Melted butter
- Minced garlic
- Cajun seasoning
- Chopped parsley
- Lemon juice
Mix well. The sauce should be rich, aromatic, and slightly tangy.
5. Combine Everything
As soon as the steak bites are done:
- Transfer them immediately to a bowl
- Pour the Cajun butter sauce over them
- Add the sautéed mushrooms
Toss everything together gently.
The heat from the steak will help the sauce coat every piece perfectly.
